The 3 Most Commonly Performed AC Repairs

by | Jul 16, 2018 | HVAC Contractor

In Florida, air conditioning is vital. The outside is humid, muggy, and indescribably hot sometimes. So if your air conditioner goes out, it can be unbearable until you get it fixed. Which is why AC repair services are so important. But what are the most commonly reported problems with an air conditioning unit that you are likely to face? If you are in need of air conditioning repair in Stuart FL, here are the 3 most likely candidates for what’s wrong.

Leaking Refrigerant

If you’ve noticed the temperature in your house fluctuating from hot to cold seemingly on a whim, then it may be because your refrigerant has begun leaking. This can be for a variety of reasons, all depending on the variety of locations these leaks can be found in. Something else determined by the location of the leak is the cost of repair by the technician. This is due to a lot of things, not the least of which is the work that would be required to even get to the location of the leak, let alone fixing it. As such, if you notice this problem, have it inspected by a trained AC technician as soon as possible.

Drain Line Problems

Your AC unit has its drain line, and like the filter, needs to be kept watch over, as it can get potentially clogged with dirt, lint, or dust that it picks up through the vents. And when your drain line gets clogged, the drain pan begins filling and overflowing, which in turn will cause water to leak out and potentially damage your AC unit and any other machinery around the pan. You should make sure that your drain line is nice and clean at least once a month so that you can avoid this problem, and have a technician come and fix it when you notice it.

Burnt Out Capacitor

The start capacitor is what sends the necessary spark to the motor to activate it. And if that burns out for whatever reason, then the motor doesn’t know when to turn on, and will just not work. And if it does turn on, it won’t run nearly as efficiently as it would with one. Luckily, since this electronic device usually breaks by burning out, if you’re near your AC unit, you should be able to tell something’s wrong by the smell of smoke. If you see this problem with your AC unit, contact a technician immediately to have them inspect and repair it. Visit A/C Medics for more information.
