Four Components of a Heating & Air Conditioning System

by | Jul 11, 2022 | Heating and Air Conditioning

An HVAC system is a mechanical apparatus that provides climate control to an indoor space or area. HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. HVAC is a heating, cooling, and ventilating system to maintain thermal comfort. HVAC systems are found both in residential and commercial properties. This article deals with the components of an HVAC system.

Condenser

Compressors regulate the pressure and temperature of gases and liquids. There are two types of compressors. Air-cooled condensers are mounted outside the building in the open. The water-cooled type is located inside. To increase the lifetime of a compressor, it is vital to have regular maintenance and remove dirt and trapped water vapor.

Evaporator

An evaporator is an integral part of an HVAC system and provides cool air into the room. The evaporators are located behind the air filter. It helps in removing moisture from the refrigerant(air/water). It filters dirt and dust from the condenser (air/water), reducing its capacity to absorb heat. Evaporators are also responsible for cooling the expelled air, making it much fresher.

Compressor

A compressor is known as the heart of the HVAC system. It pumps refrigerant into the system and compresses it. Compressors have a heat exchanger, which cools the refrigerant before entering the condenser coils. The heat exchanger is a crucial component that helps maintain a balance in pressure and temperature. This allows the compressor to produce cold air efficiently.

Fan

The fan is a device that helps to intake fresh or ambient air from the atmosphere and helps to mix it across the evaporator coil. It is in front of or behind the evaporator coil, and it can be a blade or impeller type.
